Candidate guide

What to expect from your AI interview

It is a conversation with a recruiter who is also very good at spreadsheets. It lasts about 35 minutes, it runs on your phone, and it adapts to how you answer.

The four stages

  1. 1

    A short introduction

The AI greets you, tells you what the interview covers, and asks you to agree to the fairness monitoring. It explains exactly what is recorded: which tabs you switched to, how long you took, and whether you typed or pasted. Nothing else. Read it — it is two lines.

  2. 2

    About you

Name, age, location, education, university, experience, and what salary you are expecting. Then four sliders: how comfortable you are with Excel, accounting software, online tools, and manual khata registers. This is the part that actually helps you — it sets the starting difficulty, so you are neither bored nor thrown in blind.

  3. 3

    The interview

A chat. The AI asks one thing at a time, in English or Roman Urdu — whichever you prefer. It will show you real documents: a balance sheet, a trial balance, a khata page, a payment voucher, a cheque, a payslip. Each candidate gets different figures in those documents, so nobody can pass off a friend’s answers.

  4. 4

    The thank-you

You get a warm closing page. No score, no pass/fail — the company decides and contacts the department directly. There is a 1-tap rating box; if anything felt confusing or unfair, that is where you say so.

What gets asked

Weighted to suit the job. You are not expected to be strong at all of it.

Core accounting

journal → ledger → trial balance, bank reconciliation, depreciation, inventory

Pakistani taxation

salary slabs, WHT s.149 / s.153, sales tax 18%, filing dates

Payroll & EOBI / SESSI

employee 1% / employer 5%, gross-to-net, professional tax

Manual khata

kacha vs pakka khata, roznamcha, jama / naam, vouchers, party ledgers

Salary → tax

gross structure, HRA exemption, exempt allowances, deductions

Excel

VLOOKUP / XLOOKUP, SUMIF, pivot tables, real spreadsheet tasks

Ethics & judgment

real scenarios — your boss books his own dinner as company expense

You, personally

goals, pressure, punctuality, and whether you’d actually stay

Honest advice: you are being assessed on how you would actually do the job, not on how much you memorised. Every accountancy interview rewards the candidate who says “I am not sure, but here is how I would find out” over the one who guesses confidently.

Four things worth knowing

Answer in your own words

Written answers are checked for consistency and timing. A polished paragraph pasted from a chatbot reads as pasted — and it lowers your score.

Your figures are your own

The balance sheet in your interview has different numbers from everyone else’s. A screenshot from a friend is worthless.

Getting it wrong is normal

Everyone gets some wrong. The AI notices when you are struggling and moves to a different area rather than ending on a question you cannot answer.

Nobody is auto-rejected

The system produces evidence, not verdicts. A person reads the report and decides.

Questions candidates actually ask

Do I need to install anything?+

No. One link, any browser, phone or laptop. It works on a slow Android phone.

WhatsApp opened the link and it looks broken.+

Tap the “Open in Chrome” banner at the top. The WhatsApp in-app browser is unreliable for saving progress.

My internet cut out halfway.+

Nothing is lost. Every answer is saved the moment you submit it. Reopen the same link and carry on.

Can I take it in two sittings?+

Yes. Same link, up to 14 days. Your progress is exactly where you left it.

I don’t know what “jama” or “kacha khata” means.+

That is completely fine and it will not cost you a mark. The AI explains the term in plain English, then re-asks the question in standard accounting language. If you demonstrate the concept, you score full marks — the report just notes you would need a short orientation on their registers.

What if I don’t know an answer?+

Say so. The AI notices, moves to a different area, and — if you are genuinely borderline — gives you one gentle second chance near the end. A single weak topic does not end your interview.

Will I see my score?+

No. Scores stay private and go only to the employer. You get a thank-you page and nothing else to argue with.

Can I use ChatGPT or Google while I answer?+

Please don’t. Tab switches, paste events and typing speed are recorded as part of the fairness check. A suspiciously perfect answer with zero typing time reads worse than an honest one — it is the single most common way candidates accidentally flag themselves.

Can I ask for help during the test?+

No. The transcript is read afterwards by a human, so assistance shows up on the page.

How does an AI interview judge me fairly?+

Every question has a fixed answer key where one exists (multiple choice, numbers, matching). Written answers are graded against a published rubric with worked anchors. The same answer gets the same score. You can read exactly what was scored in your report.

How long does it take?+

Around 35 minutes. Most people finish in 25.

What device should I use?+

A phone is fine. A laptop is nicer if you have one. Desktop is not required.

What happens to my data?+

Your answers, CV and session data are stored for 12 months, then automatically deleted. Only the company’s HR and the manager reviewing you can see it.

Something is broken — how do I tell them?+

Tap “Report a problem” at the bottom of any page. It sends a screenshot of the exact spot with your note — you never have to describe a URL or type a bug report.

Ready when you are

Have your link ready. It takes about 35 minutes and you can pause any time.
